INNER GLOW: Foods you can eat for healthier skin
We hear it time and time again — you are what you eat! But, are we really hearing it, or has it grown to sound so cliché that the sentiment has lost meaning? Well, we believe there’s definitely merit to the idea, and we are giving you a list of reasons. We’re outlining some of the best foods you can eat in order to keep your skin healthy.
*Please make sure to know your allergy status, when it comes to these foods. Check with a physician, if you’re not quite sure.
Fish
Fatty fish — like salmon, mackerel, and herring — are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, and zinc. Omega-3 fats help to keep the skin moisturized, while also fighting inflammation. The vitamin E protects against free radicals, and the zinc can actually aid in the production of new skin cells! Now, the only thing you need to think about is which recipe you’ll attempt tonight!
Berries
Berries are a refreshing summer snack, but are a great idea all year long. They contain antioxidants that actually may combat the sun damage-related signs of aging (hello!). We are here for anything that can help us fight against the toxicities of our environment.
Avocados
Avocados pack a mighty punch, when it comes to the benefits for our skin. High in healthy fats that actually help keep the skin flexible and moisturized, avocados are also delicious. There are so many dishes you can make with them, including guacamole and avocado toast. Good thing they are versatile, because not only do they contain healthy fats, they also have sun damage-fighting compounds, as well as vitamins C (helps create collagen) and E (antioxidants).
Sweet Potatoes
Okay, don’t get us started on counting the ways we love sweet potatoes (and ‘tis the season), but to also know that they treat our skin right? That makes us smile even wider! As an excellent source of beta carotene, this bright and beautiful vegetable actually has the capability of blocking damage from the sun.
Dark Chocolate
We’re hearing you say yes, please, before you even hear the benefits — we did the same thing! Dark chocolate is one of the best foods for your skin. Really, it’s the cocoa (at least 70%) that makes it so. Some of the pluses that come with regular consumption are thicker, more hydrated skin, lower sensitivity to sunburn, and even better blood flow! I mean, they had us at 70% cocoa!
These are some foods that help keep our skin looking and feeling the best it can. If you love to research, you can find more foods that benefit your skin, and your body, overall. To make sure you’re taking care of your skin on both sides, we recommend eating right, and then also taking care of your skin, on the outside. We recommend our one-stop shop Glory SkincareBox, because we have you covered from cleansing to sun protection, and everything in-between.
