PEACE OF MIND
Finding Peace in a Time of Uncertainty
We’re living in uncertain times, and it’s been a long year. Just when it feels as though we have been hit with one challenge after another — and that’s putting it mildly — another event knocks us down. When things get hectic, it’s easy to feel stressed and anxious. We understand that, because we feel it too. While there’s no magic that can make the challenges disappear at the wave of a wand, we’re giving you some tips on how to find your peace in a time of uncertainty.
Unplug.
A digital detox is one of the best solutions to taking some time away from the noise. With all of the news alerts, social media discussions, anxious messages from friends and loved ones, and overall addiction to consuming any and every type of information from our tech devices, taking a break for a designated amount of time is helpful. Feeding yourself with anxiety-provoking information will only make you more nervous about the current state of the world, so why not block it out for a while? Give yourself a time slot for when you agree to turn off or quiet your cell phone, computer, digital watch, TV, and any other tech. Take that time to focus on yourself, your goals, your healthy lifestyle (goals), and anything else that has nothing to do with all that’s giving you stress.
Talk about it.
Whether you call up your best friend or sign up for therapy, talking things out is another way to find peace in a stressful time. Keeping things bottled up becomes a silent cause of anxiety and stress. Talking through your feelings and processing those complexities is a way for you to find some peace on the other end. It can take some time and repeated discussions, but by addressing your honest feelings, you’re giving yourself the gift of relief — if even for a moment.
Exercise.
Getting your heart pumping is known to help reduce stress. When you keep your body moving, you give it a chance to combat those negative feelings that get pent up inside. Go for a walk, practice yoga, or go for a hike. There are so many ways you can stay active, while feeding your inner peace. Being one with the outdoors and breathing in Mother Nature are both calming and necessary. Be around the trees, ocean, and birds (and other wonders of nature). Whichever activity you choose, just remember to revisit the outdoors often; it will make you feel better.
Watch uplifting content.
If you aren’t interested in unplugging, or if you’ve already carved out some time for that, once you’re ready to get back to taking in content, make sure it’s uplifting. Stay away from the negativity and find movies, TV shows, and even social media clips that uplift and inspire you! Watch how others are helping and nurturing people, or movies with a positive message. Constantly taking in negative images and information can put a damper on your mood. Doing the opposite can pick you up, giving you some much-needed peace.
Just…be.
Pour yourself some of your favorite herbal tea, plug in your diffuser, and sit in your favorite spot with a cozy throw. Just sit quietly for a moment or two. Observe how you feel, take some deep breaths (maybe even meditate!), close your eyes, and just enjoy the stillness. Improve your mood with our Current Mood Kit. You may even want to use our Tranquility Aromatherapy Oil, that helps to relieve nervous exhaustion and mental fatigue. There’s nothing like a moment to yourself, especially when the world is filled with static.
These tips are geared towards giving you ways to deal with uncertain times, but we also think they are great habits to get into, no matter what is going on in the outside world. If you keep practicing peace when times are good, you become armored for the times when you’ll need it most.
